The Breakfast Club × Mama Jewels
Mama Jewels has partnered with The Breakfast Club. But what exactly is The Breakfast Club? It's a foundation that provides breakfast to children in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya – children from the slums who would otherwise be unable to attend school because of hunger. The program is run by Dodore. After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day: it helps break the cycle of poverty and gives hope.
The Breakfast Club currently also supports a parish in the Lviv region of Ukraine, providing meals to the children of war refugees.
How The Breakfast Club began
The Breakfast Club was founded by a group of students at Hogeschool Utrecht (HU University of Applied Sciences) in the Netherlands. One of those students was Soma, the founder of Mama Jewels. The teacher supervising the project was already a volunteer with Dodore and brought the idea to the school. Students could sign up to take part – and that's how awareness grew and a motivated team came together. The foundation was established in 2017 and makes sure that 280 children between the ages of 3 and 10 can eat breakfast every single day.
Visiting the children
The Breakfast Club's mission is to provide breakfast to children at underfunded schools in areas affected by poverty. We believe in the opportunity that education offers, and we give these children the nourishment that supports both body and brain.
Research shows that free school meals nourish brain and body in three ways. First, they are a powerful incentive to attend school, boosting attendance. Second, proper nutrition is essential for brain development. Third, well-fed children concentrate more easily and therefore learn more. The data shows that providing food at school improves reading and math results, with especially significant gains among girls.

The Breakfast Club holds ANBI status (Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling), the official Dutch designation for public benefit organizations. This means that at least 90% of all donations go directly to the charitable cause – the organization does not operate for profit.
