Breast Milk Jewelry: Your Breastfeeding Journey, Set in Stone

Breast milk jewelry is fine jewelry set with a stone made from a mother’s own breast milk. A few drops of milk are preserved, blended with a jeweler’s resin and polished into a smooth, opal-like stone, then set in a ring, necklace, bracelet, pair of earrings or charm. You may also see it written as breastmilk jewelry or called a breast milk keepsake. Whatever the name, the idea is the same: a lasting, wearable memory of feeding your baby.

At Mama Jewels, every piece is handcrafted in our own studio by trained jewelers, in 925 sterling silver or solid 9K, 14K and 18K gold. We grew out of a traditional jewelry store with a workshop that has been making and repairing fine jewelry since 1979, and we bring that same standard to breast milk jewelry: comfortable to wear every day, beautiful years later, and made to be passed on.

Types of breast milk jewelry

Most mothers start with the piece they will wear most. Each type has its own character:

• Breast milk rings: the most popular choice, worn daily and always in view. Nearly thirty designs, from a single stone to stacking bands.
• Breast milk necklaces and pendants: worn close to the heart, easy to layer, and a favorite gift from partners.
• Breast milk bracelets: a delicate chain bracelet with a small stone, adjustable for a comfortable fit.
• Breast milk earrings: subtle stud earrings, often paired with a matching ring or pendant.
• Breast milk charms: a stone you can add to a charm bracelet or a chain you already own, one charm per milestone.

How breast milk becomes jewelry

The process starts after you order. We mail you a free breast milk shipping kit: a small leak-proof vial printed with your name and order number, a prepaid return envelope with a tracked label, and clear instructions. Fill the vial to the line, seal the envelope and drop it in the nearest mailbox. About one tablespoon of milk is enough, and fresh, frozen or thawed milk all work.

In the studio your milk is first stabilized to preserve it, then blended with a special acrylic resin, cast in thin layers, cured and polished into a gleaming stone. Every shipment is registered under its own order number and processed on its own, never alongside another order, so your milk stays yours from the first day to the finished piece. Standard production time is six to eight weeks from the moment your milk arrives, and your jewelry ships to your US address as a tracked package. The full step-by-step is on our shipping and returns page.

Materials and personalization

Choose 925 sterling silver, finished with rhodium so it keeps a bright, white-gold look, or solid gold in 9K, 14K or 18K, in yellow, rose or white. Our gold is solid, never plated. Depending on the design you can add an engraving, a birthstone, a cubic zirconia or lab-grown diamond accent, or an inclusion such as a lock of hair, ashes, umbilical cord or placenta.

Every stone is made from your milk alone and finished by hand, so no two pieces are ever the same. That is exactly the point: it is not a symbol of your journey, it is your journey.

Who chooses breast milk jewelry

Mothers who want to mark the end of a long nursing journey, or a short and hard one. Partners looking for a push present or first Mother’s Day gift with real meaning. Grandparents and friends who want to give something that cannot be bought off a shelf. And parents who want a memorial keepsake of a baby they carried for too short a time. Every one of these stories deserves care, and we treat each order that way.

Frequently asked questions

Is breast milk jewelry safe and hygienic?

Yes. The milk is treated and dried in the very first step, so no liquid remains in the stone and it cannot leak or develop an odor. The resin is UV-resistant, and with normal care the stone keeps its color for years.

How long does breast milk jewelry last?

With proper care, a lifetime. Keep it out of water, perfume and prolonged direct sun, store it in its box, and it can be handed down. Silver is covered by a one-year warranty and gold by a two-year warranty against manufacturing defects. See our warranty terms for the details.

Can I use frozen breast milk?

Yes. Fresh, frozen and thawed milk all work, and you do not need to ship it refrigerated. We can also store leftover milk for up to six months in case you want a second piece later.

How much does breast milk jewelry cost?

Prices depend on the design and metal. Sterling silver pieces are the most accessible way to start; solid gold costs more because of the gold content and rises with the karat. The breast milk shipping kit is free with every US order, and the handcrafted stone is always included in the price.
